A Personal Message to our Community of Reloaders

By January 21, 2019 No Comments

Reload Greece has witnessed significant growth over the last few years, and I am immensely proud of the achievements the organisation has made.  Within 2019 and after four full years of service and dedication to our work, I will be moving to the Board of Trustees, taking a step back from the day to day running of the organisation. This offers a great opportunity for a new ambitious member of our community to lead Reload Greece’s next chapter.  I am thrilled to be passing on the batton to a member of our community who with their new ideas and initiative will take our organisation to the next level and stage of its development.

We expect to be announcing our new leader in the following months, ensuring a very smooth transition. In the meantime, I will continue to lead the team and all our efforts. Our call for applications to the Reload Greece CEO role is open. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis and the deadline to apply for the position is the 15th of February 2019. More information can be found here; if you are passionate about making a difference and believe your skills match our requirements, we would love to hear from you.

I would also like to take this opportunity to inform you that Mary Tripsas, Professor at Boston College, and a leading management scholar on innovation, entrepreneurship and strategy, has agreed to join the Reload Greece Board of Trustees. Mary’s work has focussed on the transformation of industries by new technology and the Reload Board is delighted that Mary has agreed to contribute and support with her insights to the next phase of Reload’s development, offering also a bridge to developments in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the US.

Looking back at where we started, the future really excites me, let me explain why. Along with four Greek friends all living in London in 2012, we together founded Reload Greece in order to connect the diaspora with Greece by using entrepreneurship as a vehicle. Central to our objective was our desire to develop a like-minded community of people who not only dream about the change they want to see in the world, but have access to the tools, resources and network to build it.

We started with just an idea, “what if we could create a bridge between Greece and the rest of the world”. We didn’t know exactly how we would achieve this, but we were passionate and committed to find a way and Reload Greece was born.

While still at University, we organised our very first conference. I will never forget the thrill and excitement we all got from that day and the urge we felt to keep going. Focus groups and numerous pilot events followed to ask the community what was needed by an organisation like Reload Greece. We made a decision early on that the organisation was created ‘by the community, for the community’ and for this reason, we assumed a charitable status with a focus on high quality education.

I joined the team full time in January 2015 and over the past four years I have had the privilege to work closely with some of the most brilliant minds and have been taken aback from the kindness and willingness of people to step-up and help one another for a common cause. Looking back, every single one who has been part of Reload Greece has made it what it is today.

Setting the foundations and scaling the organisation has not been easy. Like any entrepreneur’s journey, the road we have been travelling on has had its fair share of challenges. However, one thing I learned from the process is that if you set your mind and heart to something, there is really nothing you cannot accomplish. Surrounding yourself with people who believe in this too, is what makes all the difference. I learned that the more you grow, the greater your challenges become but so does your capacity to navigate them.

This year we celebrated reaching more than 4,000 participants through our programmes and activities, the acceleration of over 100 start-up teams and the launch of our first pilot events in Germany, the Netherlands and the U.S. This year we also welcomed Nicholas Jennett and Mary Tripsas to our Board of Trustees which further enhanced the breadth of expertise and perspectives to the organisation’s strategic vision.

I will forever be grateful for the opportunity that was given to me to lead our organisation’s first  stages of development, I feel very proud about the impact the organisation has had and I am excited for the future. We are surrounded by a passionate, driven and successful community of thousands of people who all own Reload Greece and who are ready to contribute to its next chapter of development. Our 2019 activities are formalised, the path ahead is clear and with so many exciting opportunities, we are looking forward to growing our activities, reach and impact further.

Our ever-growing and highly skilled community of passionate Reloaders will be a tremendous source of talent from which to identify our new leader. As I reflect on my Reload Greece journey, I am excited for the organisation’s next chapter. I will continue to lead the organisation in early 2019 and I look forward to introducing our new CEO in the near future. In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our Reloader community for making Reload Greece what it is today and I wish you all the best for a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2019.

Always a Reloader,
